{"id":58,"date":"2014-08-25T17:26:46","date_gmt":"2014-08-25T17:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/research-ethics-review\/?page_id=58"},"modified":"2024-01-22T15:20:45","modified_gmt":"2024-01-22T20:20:45","slug":"our-members","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www-staging.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/research-ethics-board\/our-members\/","title":{"rendered":"Membership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span id=\"page48R_mcid33\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The Research Ethics Board (REB) is an autonomous body that is mandated by Dawson\u2019s Board of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Governors to review the ethical acceptability of research involving humans, when conducted by Dawson <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">faculty, staff, students or approved external researchers. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page48R_mcid34\" class=\"markedContent\"> <\/span><span id=\"page48R_mcid35\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Dawson College is served by a single institutional REB, and its mandate from the Board of Governors grants <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">it the authority to approve, reject, propose modifications to, or terminate <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">on ethical grounds<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> any <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">proposed or ongoing research that involves human participants and is conducted within the jurisdiction <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">or under the auspices of Dawson College, regardless of where the research is conducted. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Current Members<\/h2>\n\n        <style>\n\n        <\/style>\n\n\t\t<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"knowledgeable-in-relevant-disciplines\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Knowledgeable in Relevant Disciplines<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>Helene Nadeau<\/p>\n<p>Wendi Hadd (Interim Chair)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"knowledgeable-in-ethics\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Knowledgeable in Ethics<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>Michael Nafi<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"knowledgeable-in-the-law\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Knowledgeable in the Law<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>Lyndon Entwistle<\/p>\n<p>Michael Nafi<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"representing-the-community\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Representing the Community<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>Katherine Walsh<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2>Become a REB Member<\/h2>\n<p>The Dawson Research Ethics Board (REB) is currently seeking qualified volunteers in the following categories:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Representative Knowledgeable in Ethics<br \/>\n<\/strong>Candidates for this membership category need to have sufficient knowledge to guide an REB in identifying and addressing ethics issues. A balance of ethics theory, practice and experience offers the most effective path to knowledge in ethics for REB membership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Representative Knowledgeable in the Relevant Disciplines<br \/>\n<\/strong>Relevant Research Disciplines include the Social Sciences and Humanities, Educational Research, Research Methods, Nursing, Community and Social Services. Candidates for this membership category must be knowledgeable in a range of quantitative or qualitative research methods for research projects involving human participants. Recent experience conducting research in one of these areas and research involving human participants will be considered an asset.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Representative Knowledgeable in the Law<br \/>\n<\/strong>The role of the member knowledgeable in the law is to alert the REB of legal issues and their implications (e.g., privacy issues). Knowledge and\/or work experience with privacy and confidentially laws would be considered an asset.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Community Member<br \/>\n<\/strong>Candidates for this membership category must not be affiliated with Dawson College. It is advisable that Community Member candidates not be currently engaged in research activities or practice law as their primary activity. Experience as a participant in a research study would be considered an asset.<\/p>\n<h3>Membership Details<\/h3>\n<p>The Dawson REB typically meets once a month throughout the academic year.<\/p>\n<p>REB members are provided with education and training to enable them to fulfill their duties. These opportunities may include participation in local or out-of-town conferences, workshops, and round table discussions, as well as the applied learning that is encouraged at each meeting.<\/p>\n<h3>Selection Process<\/h3>\n<p>The REB Office will contact the selected candidates to schedule an interview with the REB Selection Committee. Upon a successful interview, the candidate will be invited to attend a REB meeting as an observer. The Selection Committee will then make their final recommendation(s) to the Dawson College Board of Governors for appointment.
